Annual angus sale a winner

Premium stock and warm weather saw bidders turn out in droves to support the annual autumn bull sale of Quarterway Angus Stud at Waterhouse on Friday.

It was one of the largest crowds in attendance with more than 130 people and 40 registered bidders with strong interest from Flinders Island and many repeat buyers spanning the North-East.

Stud principal Trevor Hall said of the 61 bulls on offer all were sold.

“We are very pleased with the line-up that we have produced this year, it was a fantastic day and our average sale prices was the highest we have ever achieved at $8931,” he said.

“The beef industry is in a positive state at the moment, and we pride ourselves on breeding for structure with good feet, temperament and longevity.”

Lot 42 was the highest priced bull on the day selling for $14,000 to Jetsonville’s Les and Noelene Lette.

“The Bellinger family were our volume buyers taking a total of 14 bulls.

“We were pleased to see 20 bulls go to Flinders Island and Rushy Lagoon were also strong repeat buyers taking several bulls too,” Mr Hall said.

“The new sale location worked to perfection, it’s got a good feel about it and flowed well and we will definitely be holding our spring sale here come September.”

Come the end of the week all bulls will be delivered to their new homes with the Hall family already planning for the next seasons sale.

“We will be calving in another six weeks and preparing the next lot of bulls, drafting them up and working on the foundations.

“For the spring sale we’ll have yearling bulls available which are well suited for heifer mating.

“Teresa and I would like to thank all of the people who buy from us year in and year out, we appreciate the business – it was a bloody good day,” Mr Hall concluded.
