Winnaleah shed a winner

A long search for a suitable base for the North-East Men’s Shed, based at Winnaleah, has had a successful conclusion with the shed taking over the old changerooms at the Winnaleah Recreation ground.

Men's sheds play an important role in community, providing an outlet for hobbyists skills but even more vitally a meeting point and social focus for those who might otherwise feel isolated.

While it is known as a mens’ shed, the Winnaleah shed is open and inclusive to both men and women.  

The president of the shed, Gavin Steel, said donations of timber and power tools have been received from members of the community to equip the facility.  

“We are looking to be accessible to the broader Dorset community, from Pioneer to Gladstone and through to Ringarooma.  

“Men’s sheds are a place to share a skill or learn a new one, whether it be in woodwork, and metalwork or mechanics, or it can just be a place to catch up, get out of the house and have a cuppa and a chat.  

“To get the North-East men’s shed up and running, requires volunteer members to make it a success and we welcome anyone to visit and check it out,” Mr Steel said.

The North-East men’s shed, meets at the Winnaleah Recreation Ground, every Thursday from 10am to 2pm.
